My Pink Cupcake Corset...

Isn't that what it looks like? When I put it on, it's like I've been iced - ooh, la, la! Lol! These stays are constructed of a soft pink satin and trimmed in a rose cotton piping and light pink cotton bias; moderately boned; tied with rose lace ribbon; six layers (one satin and 5 muslin).

Happy Friday and happy sewing!

Corset No. 2

I've started working on a new set of Georgian stays this week - I do like my older set of 18th century stays, but I wanted to construct something a little more elegant. I have constructed these from a soft pink satin with a medium rose piping between the seams. I'm not sure if I'm going to make my own bias from the left over pink satin, or if I'm going to use a rose bias to match the piping. I'll figure it out as I go, which is my usual course of action - lol! In the meantime, I still have more boning to insert and I need to tighten up the bust-line just a bit - tasks I will be working on tomorrow.

Happy sewing!

A Completed Payre of Bodies...

Finished up the bias around my Elizabethan stays and inserted the shoulder strap grommets last night while watching Fraiser. Pardon the gap in the front lacing - my Maria (the best corset lacer this side of the Mississippi) was unavailable to lace me today (after all, a teenager must have a social life!), so I was on my own - lol! Ahhh, the very reason why I constructed my stays to be both front and back lacing in case no help is to be found - have a look. Happy sewing!

Stitching Up a Pair of Bodies

Some time ago, Tonia and I discussed a little costume project and photo shoot centering around the six wives of Henry VIII (I am Anne of Cleves). Since my oldest daughter is a professional photographer (and a sensational one at that), and I happen to have the privilege of being her mother, it so happens that her services are available to me on her off time for a mere hug and kiss - who could be so lucky? After the Christmas holidays I decided to start on the project, and as usual, I start with the underpinnings. Last night I finished boning my bodies (I feel the need to blush saying this) while yacking to Tonia on the phone about the up coming Federal ball in February. This evening, I laced the bodies up and took them for a test drive to see how they fit and felt. Superb, by the way! Now, off to hand sew the finishing details - happy sewing!
